Chronology of the Eiger

Chronology of the Eiger
The Eiger was one of the first mountains in the Swiss Alps to have a recorded name (in 1252). In fact, there is probably no other mountain in the world that is better documented than the Eiger. Its history and the stories and accounts surrounding the North Face in particular can be explored in an innumerable number of articles in newspapers and magazines, books and films.

One of the best literary sources from the pre-climbing era is the small volume Der Eiger by Rudolf Rubi.

A detailed history of the opening up of the Eiger with a wealth of additional information can be found in the book Eiger – The Vertical Arena by Daniel Anker.
