Eigertrail
The Eigertrail runs along the foot of the famous Eiger North Wall from the Eigergletscher station down to Alpiglen. The mountain trail winds through a picturesque landscape, passing rushing streams and bizarre rock formations. The notorious Eiger North Wall is so close that you can actually sense its mystical and legend-laden aura. The hike is also to be recommended in the uphill direction and both starting and arrival points are easily reached by rail.
On the hike you enjoy impressive views of Grindelwald's wide valley basin, bordered to the east by the striking silhouette of the Wetterhorn. But most of all, the Eiger Trail gives you a sensational close-up impression of the famous Eiger North Wall. In the area of Wart, a panel shows several of the most important climbing routes. And with a little luck, patience and keen eyesight, you may even be able to spot one or another roped team in action. The trail leads gradually downhill and the wide scree slopes give way to lush pastures carpeted with Alpine flowers. The last mound of scree is crossed in the Langenegg gully. Over time, hikers have built a large number of small cairns here. At the fork at Pt. 1,725, you keep left and finally reach the railway station at Alpiglen.
